It’s the holiday season, so you’re probably binge-watching the entire Home Alone series (or at least, you will be once finals are over.) If so, you’re probably thinking, “I wonder what Macaulay Culkin is up to these days!” Well, if you also happen to love The Velvet Underground and/or pizza, the answer will simultaneously surprise, perplex, and delight you. Macaulay Culkin is in a Velvet Underground cover band that sings solely about pizza.
Yeah, that was pretty much my reaction.
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you: The Pizza Underground. The band is made up of 5 members, including Matt Colbourn (guitar/vocals), Phoebe Kreutz (glockenspiel/vocals), Deenah Vollmer (pizza box/vocals), Austin Kilham (tambourine/vocals), and of course, Macaulay Culkin — who, by the way, sings and plays percussion, as well as the kazoo. And as if this whole thing couldn’t get any better, they also post things like this on their Tumblr:
Their demo, which can be found on their Bandcamp page, features the following tracks:
- Papa John Says
- I’m Beginning to Eat the Slice
- I’m Waiting for Delivery Man
- Cheese Days
- Pizza Day
- All the Pizza Parties
- Pizza Gal
- Take a Bite of the Wild Slice
All of which were recorded live, at Macaulay’s house in November. Just listen to this:
You can thank me later.
You can follow The Pizza Underground on Twitter at @cheesedayz and like them on Facebook here. There is currently a mini-documentary about them in the works, which they announced yesterday on their Twitter. So here’s my question: when will I be able to watch this sure to be brilliant documentary, and when will they be doing a show near me? Because I really just need to see this in person and soak up all the cheesy goodness (pun definitely intended.)
We really should’ve seen this coming.
