Brooke LaveryMy favorite activity, hands down, is laughing. They say that laughing is the best medicine and I can tell you that I certainly feel better after a good laugh where I have tears streaming down my face. When I am away at school I often procrastinate and my best tool for that is to get on YouTube and check out some comedians. It is quite easy to get lost in the black hole of funny videos on YouTube and instead of fighting it you can give in and rest easy knowing that I have done the research to find the best videos to get your abs hurting from laughter. In no particular order the following are my all time favorite clips from some of the funniest guys in the business.
1.) Jon Richardson
I’m always surprised over the fact that when I mention Jon Richardson people have a tendency to not know who I am talking about. For those of you who don’t know he is an English comedian who is best known for appearances on 8 Out of 10 Cats and for working with Russell Howard on a radio show. He first started off as a comedian in 2003 when he won the BBC New Comedy Talent Search. He released a book in 2011 called, “It’s Not Me It’s You,” which is incredibly hilarious and based off his article in the Guardian’s Weekend Magazine, Valentine’s Day issue.
2.) John Mulaney
This clip is from John Mulaney’s debut on Comedy Central called, “New In Town.” If you get a chance, you should watch the whole special because it is hilarious and will keep you laughing the entire time. Before he gained fame from his stand up he was making people laugh as a writer for Saturday Night Live. This fall his own show, Mulaney, will be airing on FOX and it will be telling the story of the life of a stand up comedian who is trying to take his career to the next level.
3.) Chris D’elia
This video is extremely accurate so naturally I got hooked on Chris D’Elia after watching it. He is not only a stand up comedian but you may have seen him on television as Alex on “Whitney” or Danny from “Undateable.” If you want to check out some more videos for laughs you can click here.
4.) Louis C.K.
Louis C.K. is very popular and needs no introduction. This clip comes from his Oh My God special on HBO and the truth behind it makes it one of my favorite bits from him. You can catch his show Louie on FX which grabbed attention from critics when it became the first comedy series to be nominated for an Emmy in the category of Outstanding Comedy Series. Louis C.K. received an Emmy in 2012 for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series and his success shows that he is one of the best comedians out there.
5.) Donald Glover
You may have seen Donald Glover on “Community” but you have not really seen Donald Glover in his element until you watch some of his stand up. He is a completely different person but every second of his stand up is comedic gold. This clip is from his Comedy Central special called Weirdo and if your looking for some more medicine in the form of laughter then you should definitely watch it.
