Now that winter is in full swing, it can be hard to get yourself out of your house or dorm and go on a date. Don’t let the weather cramp your style, though! Here are some fun winter dates that won’t put a large dent in your wallet.

Pretend you’re snowed in:

Invite your date over to your house/dorm and pretend you’re snowed in. Make some hot chocolate, bring out a board game or turn on Netflix — you know The Notebook is always a good idea. You can avoid the cold weather and get to know your date in a more personal setting.

Go ice-skating:

Ice-skating is always a romantic date idea in the winter. Put on your mittens and hat, and lace up those skates! Sure, it’s a bit cheesy, but very romantic.

Go bowling:

Many of us haven’t been bowling since birthday parties when we were younger. Go to the nearest bowling alley and play a couple of games. You can also make a game out of it; whoever wins gets to pick the next date, or the winner buys the other some hot chocolate. Plus, it’s good exercise.

Do a tasting:

If you’re of age, go to a bar and do a beer-tasting. This way, you can see what kind of drinks your date likes. This way, on your next date, you can surprise them with their favorite kind of beer or spirits.

Go to the aquarium:

Going to the aquarium is a great date idea for any time of the year. With the dim lighting and beautiful fish, you’ll see if there are romantic sparks between you and your date.

Build a snowman:

Take advantage of the snow. Bundle up and go to the park and build a great snowman together. Or make it a game, and each build your own snowman and have there be a winner. Remember to bring a carrot for the nose!

Cook from home:

If it’s too cold to travel anywhere for a date, invite your date over for some cooking. This way, you’ll be able to learn what kind of food your date likes, and you can get creative in the kitchen.

See a winter sports team play:

Go to an ice hockey or basket ball game. You can attend a campus game if your school has a team, or splurge and see a local team play. It’s a great way to create some excitement and see if you and your date like the same sports.

View from above:

Find out where the tallest building is in your area, and go to the top! Seeing your town or city from up high in the winter will be beautiful. Spend some time up there, and then go grab some coffee.

Let wintertime inspire cozy yet fun ideas for dates. It’s easy to not dip too deep into your wallet for a good date, so get creative while sticking to a budget.
