Throwback Thursday: The Top 5 Britney Spears Songs

Throwback Thursday is your weekly concentrated dose of nostalgia, where we round up the bests and worsts of all things 90s (and the early 2000s.) This week: The top 5 Britney Spears hit songs!

Britney Spears is back with a vengeance. It’s hard to believe that it was only in 2007 that she had spiraled out of control, shaved her head, and almost lost custody of her two boys. Now, Spears is back, and she’s climbing the charts once again. With her song “Work, Bitch” doing so well on the charts, we decided to take a look back at some of her most successful songs to date.

…Baby One More Time

Who could ever forget when Britney came on the scene and caused a stir in a skimpy school girl outfit at just seventeen? I distinctly remember watching the video on MTV, only to have my mom turn it off and tell me that it wasn’t meant for children. The song was number one in every country it charted, and was named one of the best-selling singles of all time with over 10 million copies sold.

Oops! …I Did It Again

“Oops! I Did It Again” is forever a jam. This is the first song I ever learned the full choreographed dance to. It was also the only time that I ever wanted to red a full red spandex suit. When this song comes on, whether alone at home or out to the clubs (I wish they would play this), obnoxious, trying-to-be-sexy-but-failing dancing happens. This all needs to happen while you think about an ex-boyfriend that you clearly hurt because he hurt you (or is that just me?). After the success of “…Baby One More Time,” she was able to follow it up with “Oops! …I Did It Again,” which sold 9 million copies in the United States alone.

I’m a Slave 4 U

Britney did it again (seriously), and shocked crowds when she wore a python around her neck during her 2001 MTV Video Music Awards performance while singing the hit.

Britney looks all hot and seductive with her dance and that python:

Piece of Me

In this song, Britney is like, “hey, I’m awesome. I have a kid on my arm, I’m still hot, and I’m a breadwinner. GET AT ME.”  For some reason, she’s also married to lots of things you can’t get married to (lifestyles of the rich and famous, what?) but that’s besides the point. “Piece of Me” was Spears’ backlash against the media scrutiny that she had been facing since the beginning of her career. This song is an empowering jam, and will help you run that extra mile when you’re on the treadmill.

Toxic

Stewardess + red haired assassin + naked, bedazzled songstress = music video magic. Need I say more?
