Let’s be real: unless you go to NYU or BU or GWU or UCLA (any big-city U, really), you’re probably not able to try hot new fitness classes regularly. Underwater spin classes and cardio dance classes on trampolines are generally thought up and attended by crazed urbanites only. When it comes to college town exercise offerings, the pickings are often slim. That’s why we’re outlining the top college-friendly workouts. These fitness plans are as versatile, meaning you can do them anywhere, meaning you don’t really have an excuse for not exercising 9 out of the 12 months of the year while you’re at school. Sorry.
The Dorm Room Workout

Believe it or not, a workout doesn’t require weights or machines. In fact, all you need is your own body weight and you’ll be huffing and puffing in no time. Lay a mat down on your dorm room floor and you’re set to start (yes, it’s that easy). Try this 18-minute plan from Men’s Health Magazine, which they call “the ultimate do-anywhere, zero-excuse metabolic circuit.” A no-prop needed workout like this one serves as the perfect break from binge-watching “Orange Is The New Black“ in bed (and it doesn’t even require that you leave your room!).

You can run anywhere. Literally anywhere. Ok, the road that runs through your college town may not be as picturesque as the scene above, but you can always find a place outside to power walk, jog, run, or sprint outdoors. If your school is located in a so so area, you may just need to run around campus a few times. Either way, there’s always the possibility of getting active outside. (Note: If you go to University of Alaska Anchorage, the preceding sentence may not apply. In which case, we sincerely apologize and urge you to try the following option, below. Or just leave Alaska…that works, too.)

And then there’s always the campus gym. Say what you may, but it’s (probably) open every day of the week and you probably still manage to complain about its hours and how hard it is to get to. Word to the wise: just go. Choose your preferred workout (weight room! cardio machines! yoga class!) and get active. The gym is there and it’s going nowhere — take advantage.
The Bike Ride

Ok, so a three-minute bike ride to class isn’t exactly heart-pumping, sweat-inducing exercise, but it’s better than riding the campus shuttle bus. Ditch the four-wheeler for the two-wheeler and hop on your bike for a bit of additional activity during the day. Hey, you could even bike to the gym. Mind blowing, right?
