The people over at baracksdubs have made our nation’s President sing quite a few songs. There was his rendition of Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend”, and his version of One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful” and we can’t forget that time he sang Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe”. Their latest however, goes back a few years to not our previous President, but one who came before him. Yep, the latest baracksdubs video stars Bill Clinton.
Now it is arguable that Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” is one of the top songs of the year so far. It has a great beat, it’s catchy. The video was a little racey. Pharrell makes a vocal cameo (and we all know that in 2013 if Pharrell isn’t on your track it isn’t a top song.) And now, thanks to some careful editing, Clinton sings the catchy pop-R&B song. Which is fitting, you know, since he had some blurred lines of his own back in the mid 90’s.
Some of the baracksdubs videos can be a bit of a stretch, but this one actually works out pretty well and it even holds the catchiness of the original. Having any President sing “Blurred Lines” but something about it being Bill Clinton makes it that much funnier. Also, Obama makes a cameo. Which is awesome.
Bill isn’t the only one covering this song though. Two well known bands have already covered it for BBC Radio One Live Lounge this year. First it was Queens Of The Stone Age, and just last week it was Vampire Weekend. As a bonus we added the Vampire Weekend cover because of Ezra Koenig’s spot-on Thicke impression, as well as the clever lyric change “you the hottest fish in this place.”
