For those of you who don’t live on the East Coast, we’ve had a bit of a weather event up here in Yankee Territory. This past weekend, Hurricane Sandy gathered force as a category 1 storm in the Atlantic, rammed into a cold front, and as it spiraled toward New Jersey, was menacingly re-christened “Frankenstorm.” Wind gusts topping 60 miles per hour were recorded at New York’s JFK and LaGuardia airports, and residents of all affected areas were being urged to stay inside even after the storm had passed, to limit possible fatalities due to drowning or electrocution.
But why let a live wire stop you from showing off your roller blade chops? Especially if you can display said chops while wearing a unicorn mask? Ladies and gents, we present CampusRiot’s Video of the Day:
Writer David Tra defied the elements by creating a unicorn mask, hauling out his roller skates, and heading out for a spin in Petworth, a suburb of Washington D.C. Since then, the video of his wet whirl (and its requisite Imgur) has been a Twitter favorite, and a welcome sign of levity in the midst of the East Coast’s worst natural disasters. In the coming days, weeks and months, we’ll try to keep a smile by bringing you more silly videos. In the meantime, if you live in a storm-affected region, give your neighbors a hand with the clean-up; if you live elsewhere in the country, donate to the Red Cross here.
