It’s August. For a lot of us, that means going back to school soon. For some, it means going to school for another term after just finishing off your summer school. Whatever your situation, it’s time to start looking into your shopping list. Here’s your timeline to make sure that you don’t miss anything.

Three Weeks Ahead: Furniture

You want to give yourself plenty of time to have furniture ordered, shipped, and delivered to your doorstep before you move in. Alternatively, plan carefully so that the furniture is shipped directly to your place of residence once you move in.

And if you’re the type to be creative with your furniture, check this video out:

Two Weeks Ahead: Laptop

your back to school timeline new computerIt takes us forever to decide on a new computer to buy – and sticking with your two-year-old, almost-broken, super-slow laptop is just not an option sometimes. Make sure you order early enough to get your laptop customized and sent to your home!

Laptop shipments are also notorious for getting delayed for a myriad of reasons, so don’t get caught miles away from home without one. That’s just torture – though here’s how to survive.

One Week Ahead: Kitchen and Bathroom Supplies

I love my toaster oven more than any other kitchen appliance. I also love my plates, bowls, knives, forks, cutting boards, baking pans, and cleaning supplies. Have all of it cleaned and ready to go! The best thing to do is to stack everything up in one place at home so that you don’t forget anything. Like toilet paper.

The Day Before: Groceries

your back to school timeline groceriesIf you’re driving in, it’s a good idea to bring groceries with you to get your kitchen stocked up and ready to go. Load up on your non-perishable foods – cereal, oatmeal, rice, pasta, and spices – for your quick and easy breakfasts and lunches. If you have awesome friends or parents that are dropping you off, ask if they can bring you to the grocery store after you move in to buy your frozen foods and dairy products too. Not having a car is inconvenient enough, so use it while you’ve got it!

Moving back to school often means that you forget a lot of important things, so here’s a basic timeline to start. Give yourself plenty of time, label absolutely everything, and conscript as many people as possible to help you move in!
